We (mankind) were originally created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). The fall of mankind began with disobedience which led to both physical and spiritual death. In Genesis 3:5-7 we can read about the original sin that began with Adam and Eve.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, the whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16, NIV). This scripture gives hope to us all to have the eternal life that Jesus sacrificed His life for. In Romans 3:23 it states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but there is hope and salvation in Jesus Christ. A question I get asked a lot is: Does God forgive all sins? The answer is simple . . .yes. If you confess, from your heart, all your sins to God and repent from them, then God will definitely forgive you. God does this because he promised in His Word that He would do this. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9, NIV).
Salvation in the simplest terms means to be saved or delivered from sin. Salvation is a choice we all have and the act of choosing to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior is one of the most important decisions you will make. We read in Titus 3:4-7 that salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God. Jesus died on the cross and sacrificed himself for us . . .for all of us. The blood He shed washed away our sins and made us new.
A salvation prayer, also known as the “Sinner’s Prayer”, is a prayer said to repent from sin, ask God for forgiveness, confess your belief in Jesus Christ, and accept him as your Lord and Savior. Saying this prayer is your first step to a new relationship with God and becoming a Christian. If you believe that Jesus is the true way to salvation, but have not yet taken the steps to becoming a Christian, it is as simple as praying this prayer. There is no magic words or formula to this prayer. Simply pray from your heart using your own words. If you feel a little lost and don’t know what to say, then here is a salvation prayer you can use.
Lord Jesus, I believe that you are the Son of God and my Savior. I believe that you died on the cross for me and washed the sins from me with the blood that was shed on the cross. Jesus, I believe that you rose from the dead on the third day and are now seated at the right hand of God. Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and ask you for forgiveness. Please show me the way, guide me through my life. Thank you for your forgiveness and your sacrifice.
In Jesus name I pray….Amen
If you have just said this prayer from your heart, congratulations and Praise Jesus! Now go out and tell someone about your decision. Get together with another Christian and solidify your decision by talking about it and what you next steps are going to be. For example, finding a home church where you can express your new self without judgement. Remember to thank the Lord daily for your salvation. Prayer is an important part of being a Christian. In prayer you can seek guidance, seek help for yourself and others, and thank Him for the blessings He has given you, both seen and unseen. There is no specific way to pray. Talk to God how you feel comfortable.
